Billie was a commissioned painting for
a Pittsburgh chef and bakery shop owner who
has a passion for the legendary singer/composer.
It hangs proudly in his home amidst other music
memorabilia like drumsticks used by Roger
Humphries and a t-shirt signed by Claude Bolling
and Jean Pierre-Rampal.

Journey is not an original painting.
I painted it, although the idea was
taken from the 1975 album cover of
Milton Nascimento. At a particularly precarious crossroad in my life, the
album became emblematic of my
personal search. I reproduced the
painting using slightly different
colors, although it is very close
to the original. I am unsure of the
original artist's name.

Arara is the Brazilian term for the long tailed
macaw. Its image has become synonymous with
the rainforests of Brazil. Their powerful beaks
are among the only tools on Earth strong enough
to open the tough Brazil nuts. Their hoarse human
-like voice is loud and startling. These intelligent
creatures deserve to roam free in their habitat,
not live on a pedestal in some cage or swank
apartment. I painted this portrait in honor of
the arara imprisoned at the Pittsburgh Aviary.
